Six days until the election. It’s anybody’s game. Almost as many votes have already been cast this year through early voting, than were cast in total in 2016. Say what you want, but Americans REALLY CARE right now. Trump followers have a cultish verve, and anti-Trumpers will do anything to prevent what they see as an apocalyptic possibility of another Trump term. It’s been a while so here’s the quick and dirty of late summer/early fall:

  • COVID cases are on their third spike, reaching new all time highs. Fatalities not so bad for folks under 70. Trump was hospitalized with it.
  • RBG died, and GOP rushed in Amy Coney Barrett. Hello 6–3 conservative court (Biden-Harris refuse to say if they’d expand the court).
  • Markets (all of them) are sideways, with Bitcoin outperforming heavily. China is piloting a government crypto.
  • Stimulus HAS NOT BEEN PASSED. Congress passed a bill in May that has not been passed by Senate or prez. Negotiations have gone nowhere (both sides are trying to squeeze in provisions about mail-in voting). People are hurting. There is still rioting and looting across the country daily. There are a lot of simultaneous causes: hunger/poverty is the biggest, but there are a lot of other peaceful protests going on for BLM (now known on the right as “antifa”), and a lot of people trying to point fingers on operatives of both sides. Protesters and counterprotesters. The far right and far left wage war in the streets, when really they should be fighting the common enemy. The country is hurting, our government is doing nothing. In January there will be stimulus.
  • You are preparing to move to Arkansas next year. Adventure, culture shock, quality of life, country livin, might go back to school.
